2010 Coastal Cleanup

At Coastal Cleanup in September of 2010, the Fryer Creek Stewardship collected 86 pounds of trash, eight pounds of recyclables, a four foot long metal pipe that weighted 60 pounds, and an eight foot long zipper. Sometimes we find an odd item too! Thank you volunteers!

Fryer Creek trash prior to a cleanup.

If trash that accumulates in Fryer Creek is not collected, it washes downstream and pollutes San Pablo Bay and the Pacific Ocean. When plastic reaches the ocean it degrades and fragments. Animals think these bits of plastic are food, eat them, and eventually die because they cannot digest them and no longer eat their real food.

It's important to collect garbage before it washes downstream. It's also important not to litter.
